What sound is your guilty pleasure? Mine is most definitely female-led rock. I love rock chicks so much.
Spend The Night is lyrically fun, light-hearted, and cheeky. But, that does not mean it is a watered-down version of rock n roll. This record kicks ass.
The songs on Spend The Night remind me of Mötley Crüe thematically. Crüe has lots of songs about partying and drinking and banging chicks. The Donnas on this album have lots of songs about partying and drinking and banging dudes.
These are the girls your mama warned you about and they’re also the girls you want to find when you go to college.
This album is hard rockin’ girl power. There is a line that can be drawn from The Runaways to The Donnas, but the latter is less serious and more tongue in cheek.
Spend The Night has plenty of guitar riffs in the style of AC/DC and Judas Priest that absolutely jam. This record is sufficiently heavy without feeling fake or forced.
And it has more than enough cowbell.
This new 2020 pressing is a double LP that features live tracks that capture The Donnas’ intensity and lightheartedness on stage.
