Elvis Presley – Christmas With Elvis And The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Do you imagine yourself during the Christmas season sipping a hot buttered rum and basking in the lights on the tree while watching the snow fall outside?  It is like something out of a movie.  This record is your soundtrack for those evenings.

Christmas With Elvis And The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is an album of classic Elvis Christmas songs that have been reworked using the master recordings and adding in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.  The Royal Philharmonic bolster the sound so much; it is astonishing how much life and fullness has been added to these tracks.

Part of this record is funky, bluesy, and jazzy riffs with attitude and a groove.  These songs are the lip-snarling and hip-shaking Elvis, albeit the holiday version of him.  These upbeat Christmas songs will make you tap your feet and move about the room.

The other part of Christmas With Elvis And The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is purely gospel music.  This is church-going Elvis, singing in the choir Elvis, Jesus-loving Elvis.  The Royal Philharmonic adds an elegance to this part of the record that is unmatched.  These songs would fit into any Christmas Eve candlelight service.

I truly believe this is the style of music Elvis would be making today.  He would be employing the best of the best orchestral musicians and set up a residency in Vegas.

My only issue with Christmas With Elvis And The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is that the background vocals that have been added to some of the songs are not up to par.  Elvis sang with amazing vocalists.  The Stamps, The Jordanaires, and The Sweet Inspirations all performed with him.  The background singers on this record are just not as good as the people who sang with him in the past.

My favorite track: Santa Claus Is Back In Town
