I implore you to get to every single live show you go to early enough to catch the opening act. I have been lucky to discover great bands because they were the opening act. A few of those opening acts became favorites of mine. Shovels & Rope opened for Dawes, Deap Vally opened for Wolfmother, Jason Mraz opened for Dave Matthews, Miranda Lambert opened for George Strait, Run The Jewels opened for Jack White and so many more.
I saw Black Pumas open for Anderson East in Mobile, AL and, I hate to say this but, their talent was wasted on the crowd. Black Pumas were amazing and the crowd did not give them near enough love.
Black Moon Rising is funky as all get out. This is part of the modern funk and soul revival that is happening and I welcome it with open arms.
The music is moving yet easy. This little 45rpm does not try too hard. The funk groove will gyrate a little piece of you without trying to overpower you.
Black Moon Rising reminds me of The Reverend Al Green. It is timeless music. There are horns and keys and soulful guitars and funky basslines.
I am excited to hear more from this band.
