Are you looking to star in your own movie about a group of high schoolers and their hijinks? This record is the only soundtrack you need!
Dude Ranch from Blink-182 is one of those albums that I have a hard time being objective about; I am not sure if I can fully remove myself from my memories of this record to honestly hear it for what it is. I was in high school in the late 90s and this sound is synonymous with those years for me, but I keep trying to hear it with new ears.
This record is high energy pop-punk. It is tongue-in-cheek angsty music for teenagers driving around in their mom’s Toyota Corolla(shout out to my high school partners in crime: Bubba and Jay). Dude Ranch has an immaturity about itself that makes this record very appealing. Blink-182 does not take themselves too seriously and that fact is very refreshing.
Dude Ranch is a fun album. It is the kind of record that allows you to smile, bob your head, and just enjoy the sense of youth being conveyed. The energy is infectious and the lyrics are irreverent.
This is definitely a party record. Invite your friends, sneak some wine coolers and weed, and spin Dude Ranch.
My favorite track has been my favorite track on this record for over 20 years: Josie
