Have you noticed the price of a Coca-Cola lately? $1.99 for a 20 oz??? But, you pay it.
Why do you pay so much for a Coke when you could buy 3 liters of Stars & Stripe cola at the Dollar Tree? It really isn’t that bad, but it really isn’t that good either. Jason James is the Stars & Stripes cola of country music.
Jason James is two-stepping honky tonk country music. It is reminiscent of George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, and a little bit of Dwight Yoakam. This record has a solid musical base, but there is not much depth to it.
No amount of crying from the pedal steel guitar can cover up the fact that the lyrics sound like they were written by a fill-in-the-blank-mad-lib, country music edition.
Jason James would make the perfect companion soundtrack to an episode of Law & Order: SVU where Ice-T is investigating a string of attacks at the local country music dive bar.
This album is not bad. Jason James’ voice is not bad. The record just is not good. However, it is better than 90% of the crap country music being played on the radio.
My favorite track: True Blues
