Brother O’ Brother

Do you ever have the chance to buy a record on a whim?  I know that it is not a gamble that a lot of people like to take because if you buy a dud you have wasted 25 bucks.  That is the reason that I love buying these albums with my plasma money.  If I buy a random album on a whim and I don’t like it, I’m out about an hour and a half of my free time and not much more.

This record is one that I bought on a whim.  I don’t even remember how I got to the band’s site to order it.  I think I saw an ad from another artist about the record company, Fonoflo, which made me look them up and I saw a special offer of limited pressings of this album.  But, don’t quote me on that.

So, what does Brother O’ Brother sound like?  You are going to think I’m crazy when I tell you……

It sounds like Jimi Hendrix and The White Stripes had a baby.

Brother O’ Brother is gritty.  It is lo-fi.  It is basic rock n roll.

Why in the world would I compare the great Jimi Hendrix to some garage rock band that you’ve never heard of?  Because  some of the vocals literally sound exactly like Hendrix.  This band must use the same type of distortion on their microphone that Hendrix used.

The music is stereotypical garage rock sound with a little bit of blues and a dash of southern rock.  I imagine that this album was recorded live to tape on an old four track recording machine, but I don’t know for sure.  None of this is bad, in fact it is really good.  There is an old school feel to the music that I really like.

This band has a familiar yet unique sound; I’m glad that I stumbled across them.

My favorite track: Dear Children
