I own Jason Isbell’s latest albums and I’ve seen him live, so I knew what to expect when buying this album. In fact, a couple of these songs are still in his live set.
If I had to categorize this LP I’d say that Sirens of the Ditch is a country album. But, it’s not that simple.
I call it a country album because it is full of sing-a-long worthy storyteller songs.
There are parts of this album where if you told me that the backing band was B.B. King along with Creedence Clearwater Revival, I’d believe you. It’s country and blues mixed with a little swamp rock.
Hurricanes and Hand Grenades takes you to church, Dress Blues can make you cry, but my favorite track is the bluesy rocker Try.
